Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

it's teh beginning of the month and the Lone Star Cards are filled again.

I went to Sam's today to get some stuff.

Now, we all know I am a liberal.

No one on food stamps needs to buy Lunchables by the case. You can make them cheaper with the lunchmeat, cheese slices, and crackers at Sam's.

Also, no appetizer things. Buy freaking basics.

This whole system needs to be revamped. I am for helping those in need. They just need to only buy non-crap. No non-100% juice pouches. No cases of Easy mac. And no boxes upon boxes of individual bags of goldfish, cookies, and candy.

Life with a boy is busy!

I never know what he is going to do.

Today, he plopped his face in the cat's water bowl.

Benny is strange

from parenting_101 when it was deleted.

It was about kids and dinner time and if they are allowed not to finish everything or refuse a food simply because they don't like (once they have tried it a few times to make sure). Both the hubs and I can be really picky (me more so than hubs) and so I expect Benny will be the same. So far in his young life he has had rice cereal, sweet potatoes, green beans, and bananas. Green beans were a no go. I tried them twice and he refused to eat them and got a diaper rash. I think I am going to give him some peas tonight. I hate them, hubs loves them, so we shall see.

But what do you parents do about this mealtime stuff? Do your kids have to eat whatever you put on their plate, even if they aren't hungry or truly hate the food? Do you have an issue with making different things for different members of the family? I do this sometimes because I love certain vegetables or an alfredo sauce and Will hates asparagus or alfredo. So if I get a craving, I make pasta but heat two different sauces and make asparagus and another green vegetable.

He ate cereal tonight.

I fed him about 1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons.

My baby is growing up. How on earth do I deal with this. I love my baby being a baby. Soon, he can sit up, crawl, and ask for another bottle!

I have the trump card this year. Everyone has to come to me for Christmas!

A co-worker lost everything in housefire. The generosity of the community and the surrounding areas in unreal. A local company offered to help pay for the framing of a new house. A local electrician and plumbing company offered to do it for free. A collection has raised more than 10k for her. I love the generosity of people.

Baby gets to start cereal this week. He eats almost 40 oz of formula a day, so we are introducing cereal on Monday.

I hope all of you have a great Christmas
